Initial Parent Meeting

All:

Our first parent meeting was held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Forum. Thanks to all who made the trek on that rainy night. The following topics were discussed:

(1) Introduction of Eileen Monacchio, our fundraiser coordinator, and  Janice Sigala, our EVSRA parent representative.
(2) The brief tour of the team webpage (obviously, you're here now!) with attention to the regatta schedule on the sidebar to the right, and other non-regatta activities of interest, in particular:
    (a) the referee clinic held this coming Saturday at 10:15 in the Lafayette Branch of the Norfolk Public Library on Cromwell Drive, near the boathouse. All interested in becoming a referee should attend.
    (b) the coxswain clinic sponsored by ODU also this weekend. We will have four coxswains and Coach Bousquet attending.
    (c) the EVSRA  “Mock Regatta” on the 16th of March at the Botanical Gardens. Novice parents in particular should attend to see how regattas utilize parent volunteers (our school is tasked with running the finish line for the EVSRA regattas.)
(3) Practice schedule at the Robertson boathouse in Norfolk (google map directions on the sidebar to the right.)
     (a)  The school provides transportation to practice, if parents want to avail themselves of this option. The cost is $50 for the season. Students will need to be picked up after practice as the bus does not return to the school after dropping off the team members.
     (b) Novice practice is first, followed by varsity practice. Expect 75 minute long sessions for each.
     (c) An introductory session will be held this weekend. Coach Bousquet will be at the boathouse from noon - 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (this is after the coxswain's clinic) so parents can view the facility and become familiar with the directions to and from the boathouse. Weather permitting we'll be rigging boats, and possible launch an eight. Novices, in particular, should attend.
(4) Required paperwork
     (a) the EVSRA/USRowing liability release. Forms were passed out at the meeting and will be available at every practice. Completed forms must be on hand prior to the first regatta.
     (b) the Crew Team Application explaining the $50 equipment fee and the need for committment at fundraising activities. Again, forms were passed out at the meeting and will be available at every practice.

The meeting ended with watching some videos from last season.
